AI doesn’t fix bad selling. It scales it. That was the opening line of Flume’s latest webinar, hosted by CEO Raoul Monks alongside Mark Colling from Solution Junkies. The message was blunt: most organisations are about to make an expensive mistake with AI sales and the window to avoid it is closing. Here’s what you need to know before you commit budget to any AI sales investment this year.
The pressure is already there, before AI even enters the room
Why are B2B win rates falling in 2026?
The backdrop is stark.
- Win rates have fallen to 19%, down from 29% the year before.
- Just 14% of salespeople bring in 80% of revenue.
- Only 45% of sales leaders trust their own forecast.
- 84% of reps missed quota last year, globally.
Against that, 80% of CEOs are now prioritising AI as their single biggest investment for 2026, according to Gartner. Nine in ten sales teams already use AI agents or expect to within two years. Gartner research shows that when it works, AI improves productivity and outcomes by 3.7 times. The opportunity is real but so is the risk of getting it wrong.
The AI sales tool was never the differentiator
Does AI fix bad selling, or does it scale it?
Raoul was clear that buying AI because everyone else is buying it, without first defining why, is a key error. The revenue leaders pulling ahead in 2026 are not the ones who bought the most AI, they are the ones who built a clear methodology first and used AI to scale it. Without that foundation, an AI tool doesn’t add value, it multiplies whatever is already happening, good or bad, at speed. Get the foundations right and the gains compound. Get them wrong and so do the mistakes.
Buyer confidence is the real lever
Why does buyer confidence matter more than price or brand?
Raoul pointed out that 53% of a purchase decision comes down to buying experience, not price, brand or competition. Deals stall through indecision and not because the buyer chose someone else. When buyers feel confident, deals are ten times more likely to close.
The five guardrails for any AI in sales decision
What guardrails should you apply before buying an AI sales tool?
The webinar set out what separates AI that works from AI that entrenches the wrong behaviours:
- No foundations. Without a defined methodology, AI just scales whatever is already there, for better or worse.
- Not in the workflow. Salespeople already juggle an average of eight tools. Anything sitting outside their day-to-day system won’t get adopted.
- Retrospective only. Most tools describe what happened but few prescribe the next move, which is what actually builds both seller and buyer confidence in the moment.
- No guardrails. An LLM without a framework produces ten different answers to the same question. That’s not a solution, it’s just noise.
- Built for surveillance. Tools designed to monitor salespeople get resisted, whereas the strongest results come from building for the salesperson first and then layering leadership visibility on top.
What good AI in sales looks like, live
Mark Colling gave a live look at AI that Flume and Solution Junkies are piloting inside Salesforce, benchmarked against Flume’s own framework. It’s early days, but the direction is clear: less manual admin and more moves that build buyer confidence directly where the salesperson sits.
The takeaway
The tool was never the differentiator, it’s what you put inside it. Revenue leaders evaluating AI sales in 2026 should be asking what methodology sits underneath any solution, whether it lives in the existing workflow and whether it’s been designed for the salesperson before the leader.
So, what’s next?
Doing nothing has a cost. While you deliberate, competitors are already turning AI into a genuine advantage. That gap will only widen the longer it’s left unaddressed. The revenue leaders who move now will set the benchmark for 2026. The ones who wait will spend the year catching up, and that’s if it’s not too late.
